Traditionally, The Lucknow pitch will offer spin and this will suit the Lucknow team more than the Delhi team. Average score is 160 in the first innings and teams have chased well here. It will be a true wicket and Captain will choose to bowl first and chase the target.

Lucknow Super Giants surprised everyone during the mega auction last year and ended up in the playoffs in 2023. They are an impressive bunch with a good mix of domestic and international players. Lucknow seems to have all the base covered when they meet Delhi Capitals on the 1st of April in the second match of the day.  Amongst the players not likely to be selected will be last year’s sensation Mohsin Khan, who has hardly played any games since the last IPL and nursing an injury. Jaydev Unadkat, who was purchased in the 2023 auction, may be a replacement. The newest member of the team, Nicholas Pooran, will be the go-to man for LSG. Pooran is a player with high potential but he has not been consistent at the IPL level. LSG’s run in the competition will be determined by the consistency of the middle order led by Pooran. The team has good stars but their Achilles heel is lack of consistency.

The absence of Delhi Capitals Rishab Pant is a huge blow for the franchise and they start om the backfoot even though they have some equally good game changers in their team. David Warner has been made the captain in place of Rishab Pant and the aggressive, passionate nature of Warner will definitely rub on Delhi in a very positive way. The opening pair of Prithvi Shaw and David Warner would probably be the most attacking opening pair amongst all teams. Yash Dhull who warmed the bench in the last edition may get a look in and play a major part of the tournament. Sarfaraz Khan may be wicket keeper.  Rilee Rossouw, Marsh and Warner may take the 3 International spots which will leave only 1 International player in the bowling line up, or Delhi may go with an all-Indian bowling attack and get Phil salt to wicket keep. Time will tell.
