Test Cricket – New Season, New WTC Cycle

To be critical of India’s brilliant 2024 season, the only flaw for Team India was to not Qualify for the World Test Championship  (WTC) after being in the top contention throughout the WTC cycle.

India was in touching distance to qualify for their third consecutive WTC Finals, but a poor Test series against New Zealand at home and also losing the Border Gavaskar Trophy down under meant that Australia was the second team to qualify after South Africa for the WTC Finals.

As part of the new WTC cycle, India will begin their Test journey with a five-match Test series against England immediately after the Indian Premier League.

This will be the start of the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

India Cricket and fans of Indian cricket will be extremely eager to win back their dominant place in Test cricket, which in a way is keeping Test Cricket alive as a format in the game.

The next ICC trophy to be played after the Champions Trophy will be the World T20 championship in 2026, and a lot of emphasis will be given to T20 internationals by India before the ICC event.

The team will look to defend their title on home soil in 2026. The Tournament is co- hosted by India and Sri Lanka. India will focus on all T20 Internationals, including Asia Cup, for their title defence preparation.
