Should India Boycott the Pakistan game?
With the growing escalation in political tensions between India and Pakistan, there is a growing demand amongst Indian patriots to completely boycott Pakistan in sports, especially cricket.
After the recent Pakistan-backed Islamist terror attack on Hindus in Pahalgam and the consequent retaliation by India, the relationship between the two countries is now at its worst. Boycotting Pakistan will be a natural decision for the BCCI and India.
Experts believe, cricket will not suffer even if India boycotts all Pakistan games, even in the ICC events.
Though India had cut all cricketing ties with Pakistan, ICC events were given an exception by BCCI till now.
It is time now for the BCCI to reconsider its approach towards playing Pakistan in ICC events, too.
Moreover, India-Pakistan matches are currently boring, one-sided, and have lost relevance.
Now, with the growing voice of a total Pakistan boycott, can India take the bold call of boycotting their fixture and dropping their points against Pakistan in the World Cup?
India has already boycotted Asia Cup
Indian cricket has grown far beyond the standards of Pakistan cricket. In contrast, Pakistan cricket is seeing a huge downslide in quality, both in men’s and women’s cricket. It has now become a no-contest between the two nations.
Ex-Pakistani Cricketers, barring a few, constantly level false allegations against India, showcasing the level of envy the neighbours have over India. Recent comments from former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi spewed hatred against Indian leadership and the Indian Army, which was unacceptable.
India is a major cricketing nation, and because of its huge fan base, it also brings in big money in the game. Today, India is the biggest financial powerhouse in cricket.
It is surprising to know Pakistan’s hypocrisy of accusing and hating Indian cricket, but still desperate to have cricketing ties with India. Such is the desperation of the cash-strapped Pakistani Cricket Board (PCB).
As a Tit for Tat action, Pakistan has refused to travel to India for the event and all their games have been scheduled in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
