The deadline for all teams to submit their final ICC Champions Trophy squads was February 11.

Jasprit Bumrah has been sidelined from the Indian team since the Border-Gavaskar Test Series and was also not part of the ongoing England limited over series.

Impact of Bumrah’s Absence on India’s Chances in Champions Trophy 2025

2025 ICC Champions Trophy

India’s hope of winning the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy suffered a big blow after the Indian squad was announced, which broke many Indian fans’ hearts. The Champions Trophy will be the second ICC event the maverick bowler will miss out on after the T20 World Cup 2022.

Jasprit Bumrah has been India’s number Uno bowler in all formats of the game and was in rich form after his comeback from injury which saw him out of action for almost 15 -1 8 months.

In ODIs, Jasprit Bumrah’s 149 wickets in 89 matches with an average of 23.55 and an economy rate of 4.59 makes him an indispensable force.

Jasprit Bumrah is ruled out of Champions Trophy 202

This is the second time, Bumrah will miss out on an ICC event. He was ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia due to a back injury as well.

India’s Harshit Rana has been named as Bumrah’s replacement for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Due to Jasprit Bumrah’s absence, more reinforcement was required to balance the side. This meant that an additional bowler was the need of the hour and a must-have in the Indian side.

Changes in the Indian Squad – Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy Included

Harshit Rana replaces Jasprit Bumrah, ensuring that India’s fast-bowling reserves remain competitive. The selectors have also drafted in Varun Chakaravarthy in Champions Trophy squad, recognizing his red-hot form with 33 wickets in his last 18 T20 matches, and the selectors have rightly named the mystery spinner in the fifteen-member squad. Yashasvi Jaiswal unfortunately misses out on the final list due to this change.
