The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Champions Trophy 2025 India squad and the team for the 3 ODIs England series in India. The Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to be played in Dubai and Pakistan, is the second-biggest ICC event in the ODI format after the World Cup.
BCCI had sought an extension to announce the squad, which crossed the due date for various reasons. All other participating teams, except for Pakistan, have announced their squads.
Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and India team captain Rohit Sharma held a press conference in Mumbai to reveal the members of the squad for the 8-team tournament.
It is learned that the India cricket team Champions Trophy 2025 squad can be changed until February 12, though this is highly unlikely.
The Top 8 teams in the ODI format participate in this mega ICC event. The matches are scheduled in Karachi, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Dubai for India’s games.

Is Team India Underprepared?
The Champions Trophy 2025 to be hosted by Pakistan and Dubai is the second biggest ICC event in the ODI format after the World Cup.
There is concern about India’s preparation for Champions Trophy 2025 with only 3 ODI matches apart from the 5 T20 format games against England before the ICC event and the possible unavailability of India’s premier bowler.
While India has held back from announcing their squad, most teams have announced their squad and have scheduled ODI games leading to the Champions Trophy 2025.
India’s record in Dubai (UAE) is not very encouraging. With inadequate scheduling and India missing the services of Jasprit Bumrah, India cricket team Champions Trophy 2025 campaign could be impacted.
A total of 30 games were played before the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. This led to India finishing as runners-up in the final. India looks underprepared for the Champions Trophy.
India in the Champions Trophy
- All Indian matches to be played in Dubai which will assist swing bowling and may also help the spinners.
- The tournament is a 50-over ODI format.
- Mohammed Shami returns to Indian squad, is expected to make a comeback and be part of the bowling squad.
Players Left out of the squad or from the playing eleven
Surya Kumar Yadav
India’s current T20 Captain, Suryakumar Yadav has now been confined to T20 format.
Sanju Samson
Unfortunate, but India might not look at having 3 wicketkeeper batters in the squad.

Nitesh Kumar Reddy
The one player who has played well in Australia misses out.
Mohammed Siraj
Looks like Mohammed Siraj has burnt out and need a long rest. He had a very average 12 months and the selectors have rightly excluded him from the squad
Rishabh Pant in playing eleven?
India will prefer to have KL Rahul as their first-choice wicketkeeper. Rishabh Pant would be used as a backup. Pant though effective in the shorter format, hasn’t been as consistent as KL Rahul and would only be a second-choice wicketkeeper.
Jasprit Bumrah’s Fitness Status
Jasprit Bumrah injury update:India’s premium fast bowler was hurt and was incapacitated to continue in the 5th Test match in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
Jasprit Bumrah has been given the much-needed rest and is not part of the 5-match T20 and 3 ODIs against England before the Champions Trophy 2025.
With his rehabilitation on top priority, Jaspreet Bumrah was asked to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. It is learned that there is swelling on his back.
As a big setback, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss Champions Trophy group stage matches. He is expected to be part of the Team in the tournament’s knockout stage. Cricket Fans are anxious, as Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness remains uncertain.
As per sources, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to be fully fit by the first week of March.
Supersports View on the squad
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli though had a poor test series are still the two best players in ODI cricket.
Bumrah’s absence may require Indian batsmen to score an additional 20-30 odd runs in every match till Bumrah is back in the team.
If Jaspreet Bumrah is not available for the tournament, the chances for Team India will be reduced by 40%.
