India -Bangladesh Test Series | India wins First Test by 280 runs

India started the Test Series with an emphatic win against the Bangladesh Test Team.

Captain Rohit Sharma and the Indian team extended their Test dominance at home after beating Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 22.

Rishabh Pant and Ravichandran Ashwin were India’s heroes in the Test win against Bangladesh in Chennai.

On Day 1 on a green top wicket, Toss was expected to play a crucial role. Bangladesh Captain Najmul Hasan Shanto called right and chose to take the field to take advantage of the green top.

Indian Captain Rohit Sharma also expressed that he would have chosen to Field considering the seam-friendly pitch.

Bangladesh team drew first blood by taking out 3 quick wickets with the score tottering at 34/3.

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (56) held fort at one end and played a brand of cricket, unlike his natural aggressive style.

But the fightback by India’s two veteran spinning allrounders Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja saw India end up with a first innings score of 376 Runs with Ashwin making his second back-to-back century in his home ground. Jadeja missed his century but played a valiant innings of 86. Rishab Pant (39) too had useful time in the middle after a long break from Test cricket after his near fatal accident.

With India Bowled out under 400 and Day 2 expected to be a belter of a wicket for the Batsman, Bangladesh would have fancied their chances to score heavily with the Chennai sun beating down on the pitch.

Indian Pacers made the early breakthrough with Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep.  Ravindra Jadeja, Akash Deep and Mohd. Siraj took 2 wickets each. Jasprit Bumrah took 4 wickets and Bangladesh innings folded for a mere 149 runs.

With a lead of 227 runs, captain Rohit Sharma chose not to enforce a follow-on and chose to bat again in the second innings to further the lead on a flat-looking Bangladesh attack.

India added 287 more runs in the second innings, with Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill making centuries before India finally declaring with an overall lead of 514.

Bangladesh second innings however showed some fight back with the Bangladesh captain Najmul Hasan Shanto making a valiant 82. Support from the other end however was missing and India’s First innings hero with the bat, Ravichandran Ashwin ran through the Bangladesh batting with a Six wicket haul.  Bangladesh was all out for 234 with India winning the First Test by 280 runs.

Before the First Test, Team India in its Test History was on equal wins and losses.

India played their first Test at Lords in 1932 against the England team and registered their first Test win in 1952.

This is the first time that the Indian Team has more wins than losses in Test Cricket.  A 92-year wait.
