Has India selected a World Cup-winning squad? | T20 Team Announced

The Indian selection team has announced a 15-member team with 4 reserves to be part of the ICC World T20 tournament to be scheduled to be played in June at the USA and the Caribbean Islands.

India announced its squad a day before the last-day deadline.

New Zealand, South Africa, and England have also announced their team.

India Team Announced

The Indian Selection team after a lot of speculation in the media has finally announced their 15-member squad. While most names were in expected lines, a few surprises have been included to make up the 15-member strong India setup.

Rishab Pant is Back

World Cup

Probably the most anticipated name in the selection list was Rishab Pant. After almost a near-death accident and after 2 years of rehab, it is very heartening to see Rishab Pant’s name in the selected list.

Captaining the Delhi Capitals side, Rishab has shown great form in the ongoing IPL tournament.

World Cup

Sanju Samson has been finally rewarded

After years of being in the waiting, Sanju Samson with some great knocks in the IPL has forced the selectors to include him in the squad. Sanju is leading the Rajasthan Royals who are current Table toppers in the ongoing IPL tournament.

Yuzi Chahal is Back!

World Cup

The Indian selection team in the last 2 World Cups made the mistake of excluding Yuzvendra Chahal from the squad which proved to be a huge blunder. The new selection panel headed by Ajit Agarkar has shown faith in the veteran leg spinner who is currently leading the IPL tournament with the most number of wickets. He too has been awarded for his excellent current form shown.

Rohit Sharma – Captain and Hardik Pandya – Vice Captain

World Cup

In expected lines, after Rohit’s incredible performance in the just concluded Cricket ODI World Cup. Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian team in their quest for their second ICC T20 World Cup Trophy.

Hardik Pandya has been made the Vice Captain, though he has been having a torrid time in the IPL so far. The Selectors have put faith in the Mumbai Indian Captain to come good in the ICC event.

Also, the selectors did not take into account what has happened in the Mumbai India camp in the last month in the IPL.

Hardik Pandya as a pace bowling all-rounder has been the first-choice player in the Indian setup for the T20 World Cup because of the lack of choice.

The added responsibility of vice-captaincy may help the MI captain.

Shivam Dube

World Cup

Shivam Dube was always a candidate who was looked upon as a Hardik Pandya backup. He was always the second choice and could not make a place on his own in the team. This changed drastically with some great performances from the southpaw in International cricket and in domestic cricket including the IPL.  The selectors have put faith in Shivam Dube, the player, and not just as a Hardik backup.

Based on his performance in the recent past, Shivam now warrants a place in the playing eleven even with Hardik in the side.

Yeshasvi Jaiswal – The Indian Opener

Yeshasvi will be an ideal foil for Rohit Sharma at the top and his fearless approach to batting will help Team India the quick start it requires in the World Cup.

World Cup

Virat Kohli – India’s Chase Master

World Cup

There was a debate over Virat’s selection due to his strike rate which was put to rest by the former Indian captain with a swashbuckling innings against Gujarat Titans. The veteran has put extra gear in his batting arsenal making him a must-have in the Indian squad especially in ICC tournaments.

Suryakumar Yadav

World Cup

After a major injury rehab, Surya the Number one ICC-ranked T20 player is yet to hit the straps with some big knocks in the IPL, and Sky’s form will be crucial for Team India but the pedigree this Mumbai player possesses is unquestionable.

Unfortunate for Rinku Singh

World Cup

Till IPL, Rinku had done enough to be in the 15-member probable World Cup Squad. His name not being included in the squad is a bit surprising. No one in the team boasts a better strike rate than the southpaw from KKR.

Spinners will Be India’s Weapon

Yuzi Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel make up the Spinners list. Indian selection team has gone with an additional spinner which clearly shows the approach team India is taking to counter the over-aggressive batting approach adopted by all teams in the T20 format.

World Cup

Jasprit Bumrah and the Pace Bowling Squad

World Cup

Only Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep and Mohd. Siraj makes up the pace bowling team.

Do We have a winning combination?

SuperSports View:

Inclusion of a desperately out-of-form Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohd. Siraj has raised few eyebrow.

While some players have been accommodated, Selectors have balanced current inform players and some players who have been consistent in the past 2 years in this format.

Indian selection Team has made some very brave decisions, but the exclusion of Rinku Singh is baffling. India still does not play the new brand of T20 cricket and this could be their biggest negative

Rinku Singh’s exclusion could be the only flaw in this team.

This probably is the best team the selectors could have chosen from the available talent pool.
