IPL 2023 (Indian Premier League): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially announced the IPL 2023 Schedule on 17th February 2023. The IPL 2023 will start on 31st March 2023.

With a successful Women’s Premier League, fans are eagerly awaiting the start of the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League.

When 2 additional franchises were brought into the IPL teams, there was a need to accommodate them and have a level playing field amongst the 8 established teams in the IPL. A Mega Auction was brought in wherein teams had to reinvent the wheel of buying players from the auction table. This meant that the settled teams like the Mumbai Indians, Delhi or even Chennai Super Kings had to let go of their key players and put them back into the Auctions. The most successful team Mumbai Indians, could only retain Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jaspreet Bumrah and Keiron Pollard and leave out the Pandya Brothers and Ishan Kishan. While Ishan was brought back in the auction, Hardik Pandya went on to be picked up as captain of the new franchise, Gujarat Giants. Gujarat Giants made a core team with strong T20 Mindset players which helped them pack a punch in the last IPL Edition and went on to win the 2022 tournament. While it was an advantage for the two new franchises, the established 8 teams struggled to knit the team together as new players had to be taken and a core to be rebuilt. While the rebuilding process is still on, with a year gone by, the old 8 Franchise teams will have a better outing this time around with their new players now comfortable and part of a cohesive unit.

This will also be the last IPL edition where we see MS Dhoni taking the field as a player.

IPL 2023 is set to get underway in just over a week’s time with defending champions Gujarat Titans taking on MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings on March 31.
