Match Preview:

Mumbai Indians

With last night’s impressive victory, Mumbai Indians have qualified to the 2nd Qualifier of the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

After losing Qualifier 1 against Chennai Super Kings, the defending champion, Gujarat Titans will host Mumbai Indians for Qualifier 2. Winner of the game will move and play the finals on 28th May against Chennai Super Kings. Both the remaining matches will be played at the ionic Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Hardik Pandya led Gujarat Titans had a very ordinary game in Qualifier One against Chennai Super Kings. After posting only 172 runs, Chennai Super Kings knew that score was 15 – 20 runs shy of a competitive one but Gujarat Titans made heavy weather of the chase and was bundled out for 157.

During the chase, Gujarat Titans did lose focus and played ordinary cricket and made school boy mistakes. Body language of the team did not ooze confidence and they felt bogged down by the huge sea of yellow fans screaming and supporting the home team.

Gujarat Titans

Batting of Gujarat Titans has been heavily dependent on Shubman Gill who has been the most consistent batsman amongst the Gujarat Batters.

Being the defending champion and one of the stronger teams in this year’s edition, Gujarat Titans will look to correct the mistakes and play hard to face the 5-time IPL champions in Qualifier 2.

The defending Champions would be wary of the rampaging Mumbai Indians who have now tasted blood and look to be in ominous touch with their batting bowling and even fielding.

During the Eliminator last night, Mumbai Indians posted a competitive score of 183 at the Chepauk stadium and did not lift the foot off the paddle while defending the total with some impressive. bowling and fielding display. Lucknow Super Giants were all out for 101in the 17th over. Akash Madhwal was the player of the match with figures of 5/5 in his 3.4 overs.

Gujarat Titans will be confident in this clash as they beat Mumbai Indians in the league stage at the Narendra Modi Stadium which suites their style of game. But will be wary of Mumbai Indian’s outstanding record in playoffs and their overall IPL record.

Mumbai Indians, however have struggled in Ahmedabad and are trailing 1-2 in head-to-head matches with the Titans.

Cameroon Green
Cameroon Green

For Mumbai Indians, Suryakumar Yadav and Cameroon Green are in good form and if Mumbai manages to reach the finals, our vote goes to Cameroon Green for Player of the tournament who has impressed with both bat and ball.

In the bowling department, Chris Jordan who was expensive in the initial matches had a very good game in the Eliminator which will help the Englishman regain some lost confidence. His fielding too is impressive. Akash Madhwal has been a revelation and arguably one of the best talents unearthed by Mumbai Indians this season along with Nehal Wadhera.

Mumbai Indians having won the Eliminator will look to carry the momentum while Gujarat Titans will want to quickly rub off the memory of the loss of qualifier one.

The Narendra Modi Stadium has been a batting paradise and we can expect totals in excess of 200 in qualifier 2 and probably in the final too.

Both teams, Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians will know the strengths and weaknesses of their opponents and we can expect an exciting Qualifier 2 game on the 26th May.

Match Predictions

Teams batting second have an advantage as the Ahmedabad stadium is a good chasing ground but considering the pressure in this fixture, batting first and putting up a score may not be a bad option. Gujarat Titans have a slight edge over the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2
