Ashwin replaced veteran England pacer James Anderson as the new World No.1 bowler in Tests! India’s most successful spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the current era, is known for his ever-thinking brain planning and plotting strategies on how to beat the batsman and take his wickets. He constantly reinvents and innovates his game, series after series. He does his homework for every batsman in the opposition. This is the reason he is literally unplayable in Indian and Subcontinental conditions. Recently, his overseas performance has improved many folds thanks to the loop and bounce he gets due to his height.   Ashwin becomes the No. 1 Test bowler, replacing 40-year-old England bowler Jimmy Anderson, who had dethroned the Australian Test captain Pat Cummins to be at the top of the pedestal with some great showing in the first Test against New Zealand.

Background and childhood                                                                     

Born and brought up in Chennai, Ravichandran found his calling for cricket at a young age and was inspired by his father who played at the club level as a fast bowler. He started as an opening batsman only to graduate further to a brilliant bowler. As a bowler he started as a medium paced and then found his mojo in the spin department. Always considered himself as a bowler who could be a decent bat When the pandemic ensured there was absolutely no cricket to be watched, Ashwin was On his hugely popular YouTube channel and Instagram channel Over the years, Ashwin has bowled off-breaks, carrom balls, the undercutter, leg-breaks, googlies, and on occasion in the nets even slow left-arm. It’s not rolling his arm, Ashwin uses the width of the crease and with pinpoint accuracy consistently hits the sweet part of the pitch for getting maximum purchase on every delivery. This is not a physical motion , Ashwin plays with the mind of the batsman and has fun outfoxing the batsman. This has trickling down effect to the rest of his team members too. With the form on his side, Ashwin has been bamboozling the Australian batsman with the ball in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He has risen to the top of the ICC rankings for Test bowlers. Ashwin, with 864 points has displaced England legend James Anderson from the top and returned to the pinnacle once again. The journey of eight years since his first time being at the top has not been easy with Ashwin having to fight internal and external demons. The first two test has been dominated by the Indian Bowlers and Ashwin leading the pack . Ashwin has 14 wickets in the 2-test played and has significant contribution with the bat too. The Third test saw India not applying in the first innings and paying the price by a 9-wicket defeat. Ashwin kept the Indian team in the race in the third test but unfortunately the first inning Indian batting collapse was an irreparable one and India lost the match and the series is now poised at 2-1 in India’s favour. India needs the 4th Test to go their way for the World Test Championship berth or wait for the Sri Lanka series results to go India’s favour
