Shubman Gill became the first Indian captain to score a double hundred (269) and followed it with another ton (161) in the next innings, in the second Test at Edgbaston. This remains the highest Test match tally ever achieved by an Indian captain. The captain’s knock helped India to win the second Test with a 336-run margin. With Jasprit Bumrah rested for the second test and with India trailing the test series 0-1, Akash Deep was called in the playing eleven who seized his opportunity and took 10 wickets in the second Test, helping India to level the series at 1-1. Akash Deep took 6/99 & 4/67. He also became only the second Indian bowler to take ten wickets in a Test in England.

Chasing a modest total of 193, an Indian batting collapse saw Ravindra Jadeja left only with the tail to chase down the target. While Ravindra Jadeja played to his strength and kept the score board ticking, the lower order batsmen too played a key role. After good support from Nitish Reddy (53 balls) and Jasprit Bumrah (54 balls), it was Mohammad Siraj who stood strong and gave the support for Jadeja to score the final few runs.

India had to massive 311 run deficit after England made 669 runs in their first innings. India needed to bat well to not lose the game and play for a draw. They also had to play time to save the Test match. India lost 2 quick wickets in the 1st over of their second innings, but a heroic partnership by Shubman Gill and KL Rahul of 174 runs followed by a great unbeaten partnership between Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar helped India save the Test match.
In a tense moment during the final hour of the game, the duo refused a draw offer from England captain Ben Stokes and opted to bat to complete their well-earned Hundreds. This led to heated arguments between the two teams.

On Day 1 of the fourth Test, Rishabh Pant attempted an audacious reverse sweep off Chris Woakes, only to inside-edge the ball back onto his right foot. The southpaw was taken off from the ground and scans later revealed a fractured metatarsal. Though he was ruled off from the reminder of the Test series , Pant returned to bat next day despite the pain and discomfort and scored an additional 17 runs to make 54 runs off 75 balls which helped India to have a comfortable 1st innings score.

With 35 to win on day 5 with 4 wickets in hand, it was advantage England who had the advantage to use the heavy roller to negate the initial swing on Day 5 morning. Mohammed Siraj delivered a lion hearted performance in the one hour of play on Day 5 taking the crucial wickets of Jamie Smith and all-rounder Overton which opened up India’s chances in the game. Siraj also took the last wicket of Atkinson when only six runs was needed for England to win the match and the series. India levelled the series 2–2.

After Rishabh Pant’s unselfish act, it was an Englishman who reciprocated a similar sentiment at the Oval when Chris Woakes came into bat after the fall of the 9th wicket.
