This script shocked the entire tournament and not many cricket fans expected it.
Yesterday, playing the last game of the group stage the West Indies team and the England team took to the field, to fill in the group B semifinal spots.
Before the match, three teams were eyeing the 2 semifinal spots from Group B which was yet to be decided based on the NRR if West Indies also attained 6 points from the last match.
In case England wins the game, South African Team and England Team would sail to the Semis.
So, this clash became the most important match of the tournament so far.
West Indies vs England
Led by an impressive Haeley Mathews, the West Indies team surprised the entire cricket fraternity by beating England in the last match in the group stage.
Saving their best performance for this game, the West Indies girls put their best foot forward and with a clinical team performance beat England with a 6-wicket margin. The Win not only took West Indies into the semifinals, but the margin of victory also helped South Africa qualify. This meant England joined India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and others who failed to qualify for the top 4 in the tournament.
England the only unbeaten team in the tournament so far was poised to take the semifinals spot after they posted a competitive score of 141/7.
West Indies’ bowlers had laid the groundwork by restricting England to score freely.
England’s batting started shakily with back-to-back wickets only to be steadied by one of the best – allrounders in the world, Nat- Sciver Brunt
Nat- Sciver Brunt played cautiously against the West Indies bowling and played a mature unbeaten innings of 57* (50).
West Indies girls however kept the pressure for the entire England batting innings with some impressive fielding display.
Fletcher was at her best with 3-21 from her four overs, while Matthews took 2-35.
Sciver-Brunt scored an unbeaten 57 from 50 balls.
West Indies Chase
Little-known Qiana Joseph who replaced the experienced Stefanie Taylor opened the innings with captain Hayley Mathews. Qiana Joseph repaid the selector’s trust shown in her ability to score her first-ever T20 half-century for the West Indies and captain Hayley Matthews also scored an impressive 50 giving West Indies the much-needed start in the all-important chase.
The opening partnership of 102 runs came at a strike rate of above 130+ which throttled the English bowling who were denied any chance of a comeback.

Joseph eventually brought up her maiden T20 half century off 34 balls
Deandra Dottin making a comeback from retirement came after the fall of the openers and did not allow England to dominate. She was a player possessed. She took the long handle and pressed the accelerator for a quick win.
The Caribbean side chased down England’s 141 in the 18 overs.
West Indies pulled off the biggest heist of this T20 World Cup and knocked out one of the favourites, England.
This loss broke the 13-game winning streak of the England women’s team. This win was also West Indies’ first win over the English girls in the World cup since 2008.
The result was also a double heartbreak for England as the South African run rate had their nose in front after the game, removing England from the semi-final race in Group B.
The win allowed West Indies to be on top of the points table thus avoiding a semifinal clash against Australia.
Country | M | W | L | PT | NRR |

After this clash, we now know the 4-semi finalist
From Group A: Australia and New Zealand
From Group B: West Indies and South Africa
Australia will play South Africa in the first semi-final on Thursday, while the West Indies and New Zealand will clash on Friday for a spot in the final.
Missed Opportunities
England would be disappointed in their fielding as they spilled two opportunities to get Joseph when reprieve was given by Alice Capsey on 31 and then by Maia Bouchier at deep midwicket when the opener was in her 40s. England was made to pay for these mistakes dearly.
Dunkley’s drop was the start of one of England’s worst fielding performances recently as they put down a total of five catches.
England’s innings was badly hit when captain Heather Knight was forced to retire hurt on 21, with 80 on the Team total.
This is only the second time England have missed out on the knockouts of a T20 World Cup after being eliminated in the group stage in 2010
Player to Watch: Deandra Dottin
The return of Deandra Dottin has made the West Indies Team a force to reckon with. She brings in life into the game and is an asset while fielding, bowling or batting.
