After the first week of some mesmerising cricket, the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 continued to deliver some enthralling T20 action even after match 7, with teams now consolidating their position from week 2 to secure a playoff position.
Week 2 onwards saw some standout individual performances, making the competition fierce and competitive as we had expected and mentioned in our earlier article on the 1st week WPL updates.
The current article will give an update on the WPL 2026 performance from January 13 onwards, till 26th January 2026, wherein teams look to consolidate their position
Introduction – WPL (Match 7 -16)
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 saw the second week delivering some dramatic finishes, batting and bowling brilliance, which has turned the competition on its head with new table toppers. Stronger teams expected to make it to the top 3 in the points table is finding themselves in a tough place, while teams that looked ordinary on paper before the tournament began have shown promise in the points table.
The tournament has moved from the Mumbai Leg to the Vadodara Leg phase, with all teams moving to the new destination for the second stage.
The league will then move to the playoff phase in the first week of February, which will see the playoff structure leading to the finals. The tournament’s balanced structure, with multiple matchups among all teams, has allowed comebacks for teams that would not had a good start in the first week.
WPL Matches post 13th January (match no 7-16)
- Match No 7: January 14, 2026: Delhi Capitals vs UP Warriorz
After the initial hiccups, the Delhi Capitals made a good comeback in this game with a 7-wicket win over UP Warriorz. Delhi Capitals chased down 154 runs made by the Warriorz with a lot of confidence. Delhi showcased superior bowling and batting ability, which would have done a world of good for the team that was struggling in the first week. This win has kept Delhi in the hunt for the playoffs.
Key performer – Shefali Verma – 2/16, 36 runs
- Match No 8: January 15, 2026: UP Warriorz vs Mumbai Indians
This match shook the entire WPL season with UP Warriorz shocking the defending champions MI with an easy 7-wicket win. After an impressive bowling that restricted the Mumbai Indians to only 161, UP Warriorz displayed an impressive batting chase that helped them reach the target in just 18.1 overs. The win was crucial for UP Warriorz after their loss to Delhi the previous day.

- Match No 9: January 16, 2026: RCB VS Gujarat Giants
Table toppers RCB continued their strong run in the season with yet another win, cementing their number one position in the points table.
RCB had a convincing 32-run win over the Gujarat Giants
Key performer – Radha Yadav: 0/9(2), 66
Double Header January 18
- Match No 10: January 18, 2026: UP Warriorz vs Mumbai Indians
- Match No 11: January 18, 2026: RCB vs Delhi Capitals
This double header again was a treat for all cricket fans. The first game was between the two teams who were desperately wanting to make a comeback in the tournament. UP Warriorz shocked the defending champion with a 22-run win. This win was significant and a much-needed one for the UP Team.
Key Performer – Meg Lanning – 70 (45)
In the second match between RCB and Delhi Capitals, the Royal Challengers continued their winning streak, beating Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets.
RCB’s strong batting lineup again came to the party with a relatively easy chase, continuing to dominate the top position in the points table and also becoming the initial teams to be in the playoff qualifier race.
Key Performer – Smriti Mandhana – 96
- Match No 12: January 19, 2026: RCB vs Gujarat Giants
RCB continued their winning streak and won with a big margin of 61 runs against the Gujarat Giants at the Vadodara leg. RCB batting was tested after there was a mini collapse but recovered through a valiant batting display to set up a defendable total.
Key Performer – Gautami Naik played a match-winning knock of 73 runs in a high-pressure situation.
- Match No 13: January 20, 2026: Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians
Continuing their poor form with Key players not able to deliver, the Mumbai Indians lost their fourth game and their third consecutive one. Playing against the Delhi Capitals, the defending champions suffered a 7-wicket loss, thus putting pressure on a playoff berth.
Key Performer – Captain Jemimah Rodrigues hit a match-winning knock of 51 runs along with Lizelle Lee (46)
- Match No 14: January 22, 2026: Gujarat Giants vs UP Warriorz
In another key fixture, Gujarat Giants won by 45 runs against UP Warriorz on January 22. The crucial encounter kept Gujarat in the run for a playoff position with a balanced display with bat and ball. Gujarat Giants are well on course with a few games left to be played before the playoffs.
Key Performer – Rajeshwari Gayakwad – 3/16(4), Veteran Sophie Devine’s all-around performance with bat and ball made the difference for the Gujarat Giants. She made an unbeaten 50 runs.
- Match No 15: January 24, 2026: RCB vs Delhi Capitals
RCB failed to make an impact with the bat and had one of the lowest scores in the season with the former champions all out for just 109 runs. Nandani Sharma was yet again the pick of the bowlers for Delhi, along with the all-around abilities of Marizanee Kapp. Laura Wolvaardt continued her good form in the tournament. DC won by 7 wickets
Key Performer – Marizanne Kapp with a useful contribution with bat (19*) and ball (2-17)
- Match No 16: January 26, 2026: Mumbai Indians vs RCB
The Mumbai Indians finally were able to stop their losing streak by winning this fixture. Mumbai Indians put up a brilliant batting display to see Nat Sciver score WPL’s maiden century. Even after putting a score of 199, RCB fought their way back into the game (after a batting collapse) with Rich Gosh playing a brilliant knock of 90. MI held their nerves at the end and won the contest by 16 runs
Key Performer – Nat Sciver (100) and Hailey Mathews all-round performance (56 and 3 wickets)
Summary
The race to the playoffs has entered the final phase with a few more games to go. Every team has a chance to make it to the playoffs, and all will depend on the results in the upcoming 3-5 games.
While the Mumbai Indians started well and were on course to defend their title, the second week did not go their way, and MI lost 3 games in a row.
RCB, though have qualified for the playoffs, have back to back loss, which may shatter their confidence in the business end of the tournament.
The tournament is heading towards a nail-biting finish
