Sunrisers Hyderabad is one confused team in the competition. When the tournament began, many experts having seen  the team sheet considered Sunrisers Hyderabad to have covered all angles to make it a champion and a strong side. With a new captain of the team in Aiden Markaram and a new captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad ship in Brian Lara, there were lot of expectation from this team. In reality, the team turned out to be a confused lot. Sunrisers Hyderabad went all out to buy Harry Brook in the auction to consolidate their lower middle order.

They brought Mayank Agarwal to strengthen their opening with Abhishek Sharma. While all the planning and strategies were put up , in practice the team went and did the exact opposite. They pushed Mayank Agarwal, their designated opener to 6th position and brought Harry Brook to open the innings. This confusion in the mindset of the coaching staff is what has caused harm to the team. Bowling Markaram ahead of Washington Sundar or sending Marco Jansen above an established batsman like Washington Sundar twice, only shows a biasness towards the foreign players. Problem with foreign coaches and in some cases foreign captains are their lack of trust in the Indian players. Sunrisers Hyderabad haven’t learnt their lesson and will again have a year when they do not qualify in the top 4.

Delhi Capitals

After losing 5 games in a row the Delhi Capitals finally won their first game against Kolkata Knight Riders. With a low target to chase, Delhi Capitals made a meal of the chase and if it was not for the early start given by their captain David Warner, Delhi Capitals had dug a huge hole during their chase against Kolkata Knight Riders. They crawled their way to victory and now have 2 points in the points table. The desperation of Delhi Capitals is quite visible after they recalled the veteran Ishant Sharma to spearhead the bowling attack. Ishant Sharma proved all his critics wrong and showed that there is still gas in the tank of the veteran Indian pacer who was also named the man of the match in the game . The biggest concern for Delhi Capitals is the persistent selection of their opener Prithvi Shaw even after series of failure. With his current form, Prithvi Shaw do not qualify to be in a domestic local club team let alone a franchise team of the Indian Premier League.  His form has deserted him and the opponents are aware that even if the Delhi opener starts well, he is an open target to short pitch bowling. He is also not a good fielder to put it mildly.

Delhi’s persistence with Prithvi Shaw when they probably have the best bench strength in the competition is mind boggling. Replacements are available but the team is too hell bent on playing the opener similar to Rajasthan Royals persisting on Ryan Parag. Another player is Mitchell Marsh who needs to justify his place in the eleven as he is also going through a lean patch.

The game will be touted as the two teams in the competition who failed to understand their own team’s strength.

Delhi Capitals do not emote any confidence and probably the worst team in the competition as per stats. Their victory against Kolkata Knight Riders will not give them much confidence as they almost stumbled in the finish line. Sunrisers Hyderabad on the other hand in comparison  did play good cricket and showed promise in few games but are equally in bad form. Sunrisers Hyderabad have a better batting lineup and will be able to chase or post a decent target for Delhi Capitals
