So, have they made the right moves in the IPL In the 2025 auctions?

A total of 20 players were purchased in the 2-day auction.

Before the auction, The Gujarat Titans (GT) retained five players for the 2025 IPL season

Rashid Khan: (Rs 18 crore)
Shubman Gill: (Rs 16.50 crore)
Sai Sudharsan: (Rs 8.50 crore)
Rahul Tewatia: (Rs 4 crore)
Shahrukh Khan: (Rs 4 crore)

Shahrukh Khan’s retention was a bit of a surprise, but at 4 crores, he provides the much-needed firepower in the middle order.

With Rashid Khan being their ‘numero uno’ player, he rightly got the biggest amount followed by the captain.

With some key players not retained, Gujarat Titans were desperate to have a good auction and they were successful in filling in the games quite efficiently.

On the positive, Gujarat Titans picked up Jose Butler, Kagiso Rabada, and Mohammed Siraj. While these were all good picks, All were purchased at a very high sum.

The auction was a success in filling the gaps starting with a strong wicketkeeper batsman.

Outstanding Batting lineup.
Good international bowler. But Coetzee and Kagiso Rabada may not play to maintain the balance.
Purchase of Glenn Philips at Base price was the biggest steal of the auction for GT.
A good mix of local and international spinners.
Fast Bowling squad is well equipped.
Good Indian Backups.
Power hitting which was missing in the last season has been addressed

Misses

Not retaining David Miller would come to bite them in the tournament.
Some players were taken for way higher prices.
Too much reliance on the foreign players.
Over-reliance on Shahrukh Khan who is yet to deliver on the big stage.
Spin department of 2024 was far stronger with Noor and Rashid bowling in tandem. This is missing in 2025.
Relatively inexperienced middle order.
No lower-order hard-hitting batsman may hamper their run-rate in the last 2-3 overs.
The Pace department lacks death bowlers which will be something the team needs to quickly address.
No backup for Jos Butler. Over-reliance on the England player can backfire if Butler has an average season.

Gujarat Titans from a good team balance were successful in making it a very strong team after the auction with some smart buys. The Team looks to be one of the best-balanced sides among all teams. We at SuperSports believe Gujarat Titans had the best IPL auction.

Butler has brought the much-needed firepower at the top allowing Shubman Gill to play around the hard-hitting batsmen in the team.
