Team India to Boycott Bangladesh Tour

Team India To Boycott the Bangladesh Tour? | Country before Cricket

The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) is yet to decide and confirm Team India’s tour to Bangladesh in August for the ODI and T20 series.

This article will examine whether India should boycott the Bangladesh Tour due to the deteriorating geopolitical situation between the two neighbouring countries.

Team India is scheduled to play a three-match ODI and T20I series against Bangladesh, starting from 17 August. The matches will be played at Mirpur and Chattogram.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam on Monday revealed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to confirm the tour.

BCCI, however, has informally indicated that there’s a possibility the series may not take place, but the BCB is hopeful that the series will take place based on the last meeting between the boards.

During the meeting between the two cricketing boards, BCCI has also informally discussed fulfilling the commitment in the next possible window if the tour doesn’t go ahead as planned.

Team India to cancel Bangladesh tour over Northeast comments?

The relations between the neighbouring countries have gone from bad to worse after Bangladesh’s political discourse, which saw the incumbent elected government toppled by a mob of protesters. Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Shaikh Haseena had to leave her country and take refuge in India.

Post the ouster, there have been targeted attacks on minorities in Bangladesh, especially the Hindus in the largely Muslim dominated country. Temples and houses of Hindus have been targeted and destroyed.

With the growing atrocities against the Hindu community, India has been very vocal on the minority plight in Bangladesh and has raised their concerns on multiple occasions and in International forums.

The brutal rape of a Hindu woman in central Bangladesh’s Cumilla district last week sparked nationwide outrage on Sunday, after a video of the assault went viral on social media.

Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor, Mohammed Yunus currently in charge of Bangladesh, is being blamed for fuelling this anger against the minorities in the country.

Muhammad Yunus has downplayed the violence against minority Hindus in the country, which has been severely criticised. The violence has drawn international attention.

From Pakistan to Bangladesh vs Team India:

The terror attack in India’s Pahalgam on Hindus has shaken the entire nation, and there is a possibility that the senior men’s cricket team might not travel to Bangladesh for its upcoming white-ball series in August. This is because of the hatred of Hindus being snowballed to Bangladesh.

Notably, there has been a cross-border tension between India and Pakistan ever since the Terror attack, and Bangladesh too has joined the squabble by supporting Pakistan. This happened as a retired Bangladesh army officer, Maj Gen (retired) ALM Fazlur Rahman courted controversy by suggesting that Bangladesh should occupy India’s northeastern states through a military action in Northeast India. This has not gone down well with India, a country that helped the country in its creation.

Relationships between the two countries have worsened due to the  retired Bangladeshi army official’s remark.

Bangladesh Tour

As per the schedule, Team India is set to play four games at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur and the remaining two in Chattogram during their white-ball away series against Bangladesh in August.

This will also be Team India’s first T20 bilateral series in Bangladesh and first exclusive white-ball tour since 2014.

There is a bright possibility of Team India not touring Bangladesh for the ODIs and T20Is because of the current situation,” a source told the Times of India.

Team India Cricketing Ties with Pakistan and Bangladesh

With tensions between India and Pakistan having escalated after the Terror attack on India in Pahalgam, the relations between India and Bangladesh have also been strained in recent times. Team India’s participation in the Asia Cup was also deemed uncertain, and till now, there is no official confirmation on whether the Indian team will take part in the tournament.

Humanity comes before cricket. It is an open secret that Bangladeshi people are not fans of India, and their hatred towards Hindus in their own country is well-documented.

Touring Bangladesh is a serious security concern for our players and officials.

Since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government in August, there has been a string of attacks on temples and a crackdown on members of the Hindu community.

A UN report has confirmed widespread violence against Hindus, their temples and businesses in post-Hasina Bangladesh.

Cricket, like any sport, can evoke strong emotions. Bangladesh has a passionate fan base, and the intensity can sometimes lead to heated moments. The reason might be that the Bangladesh cricket fans conduct. There is no subtlety in how they celebrate a win or how they react when they lose.

Some Bangladeshi cricketers try to mock their opponents and show their disrespect.

Mushfiqur Rahim courted a major controversy when he decided to express his happiness over India’s seven-wicket loss to West Indies in the ICC World T20 semi-final on a public platform. This was heavily trolled, but it did expose the mentality of the people of Bangladesh, including the players.

Even the Sri Lanka team has experienced poor player and crowd behaviour.

In the IPL 2025, no Bangladeshi player was bought in the auction except for Mustafizur Rahman, who came as a replacement for the last 2 matches of the season.

As the situation is getting worse by the day, instead of correcting the situation, Mohammed Yunus’ blatant disregard of the situation and trying to downplay the violence is condemnable.

In this scenario, whether Team India should travel to Bangladesh?“IT IS A NO!!’
