India Wins Asia Cup 2025 | Mohsin Naqvi called 'Trophy Chor'

India Wins Asia Cup 2025 | Mohsin Naqvi Trolled ‘Trophy Chor’

India, the most dominant team in the Asia Cup 2025 Tournament, became the deserving winner, beating Pakistan in the finals and securing the Asia Cup 2025 title. The hostilities surrounding the tournament were magnified when Mohsin Naqvi ran away with the Asia Cup trophy, as India had refused to take the Asia Cup 2025 winning cup from the Pakistani Politician, who is also the Asian Cricket Council  (ACC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)  Chief.

The childish behaviour of Mohsin Naqvi, storming out of the presentation party and taking the winners’ Trophy with him back to his hotel, has created quite a storm in the media,  with some calling him ‘Trophy Chor’.

Introduction

The Indian team beat Pakistan in the Asia Cup Finals to become Asia Cup 2025 Champions. India comprehensively beat Pakistan three times in the tournament to win the Asia Cup 2025 championship.

This was India’s ninth consecutive win against Pakistan , making it now a one-sided affair between the two sides.  This was India’s  9th Asia Cup Title.

The tournament was marred by endless controversy, which began long before it even started. From shifting the tournament venue from India to the UAE, the tournament was cursed from the beginning.

The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) had contemplated withdrawing its participation as the ACC was currently headed by Pakistan’s Interior Minister and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

Though India played in the tournament because of past obligations and their global aspirations in sports, the BCCI had clearly mentioned their reservations on accepting the Asia Cup Trophy from a Pakistani Politician in case they win the tournament. Their views were based on the current volatile political relationship between India and Pakistan.

As per Indian Government directives, BCCI and Indian teams were allowed to participate in multinational tournaments like the ICC events to adhere to global sports norms. Bilateral tournaments between the two countries however have been suspended since the Mumbai terror attacks.

With Hostilities between the two countries at its peak, Indian Team was heavily trolled by Indian Fans for participating in the Asia Cup as the tournament was an ACC event and not an ICC event.

The  Asia Cup 2025 Controversy

The Controversy started with the no handshake incident by the Indian team on September 14th when India first met Pakistan in the group stage. India thrashed Pakistan in their first encounter and won the game quite convincingly. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Pakistan Players  hid behind the handshake controversy to cover their failure on the field. To further make their statement heard, India’s skipper, Surya Kumar Yadav dedicated their win to the Indian army and to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. This ruffled feathers in the Pakistan camp, who formally made an official complaint to International Cricket Council (ICC).

India’s second encounter with Pakistan was in the Super Four stage. Again, India won convincingly. But this time, some gestures from the Pakistan players on field took centerstage which again was used to hide the embarrassment of yet another loss for Pakistan.

India responded by beating Pakistan again in the finals making it a hattrick of wins in the tournament.   After India’s win against Pakistan in the finals, India achieved its goal of winning the tournament without losing a single game thus proving their dominance in Asia.

The Asia Cup 2025 Award Ceremony Embarrassment

After winning the Asia Cup 2025, the proceedings of the prize distribution was delayed by the Pakistan team who stayed in their dressing room following their embarrassing loss yet again against India. The PCB chief, visibly agitated by the delay, was even spotted animatedly talking on the phone while standing beside the stage. When the team finally came down for the ceremony, they were greeted by loud boos from the Indian spectators in the Dubai stadium.

The Indian team stayed firm with their decision and refused to accept the Trophy from ACC Chief Mohsin Naqvi as he was also part of the presentation panel.

After felicitating the key players and runner up teams, the Broadcasters abruptly announced that the Indian team would not be receiving their award during the ceremony that the Indian team would not be receiving the award during the ceremony.

Mohsin Naqvi Running away with the Cup

In a rather distasteful act, Pakistan’s Mohsin Naqvi who is also the ACC chief took the silverware and the winners medals with him and stormed out of the presentation party as a response to India’s refusal to accept the award from a Pakistani Politician.

Summary

From the no-handshake saga to Pakistan’s players mocking with unexplainable gestures, the Asia Cup 2025 was indeed a tournament best forgotten. Indian fans feel that there can be no more games with Pakistan except in ICC events. The game has seen its new lows, and it is time for ACC to be dismantled and put an end to the tournament in its current form.
