This article will discuss how Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fared in the Indian Premier League auction.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) got some serious bad press when a photo of the LSG owner having a heated argument with the then captain KL Rahul. This damaged the entire LSG PR campaign.
It became very clear that KL Rahul would not be part of the LSG leadership group or the team itself. Like KKR, LSG was now also going into the auction with a captain buy on the cards.

LSG Retained Players
- Nicholas Pooran ( ₹21 crore)
- Mayank Yadav ( ₹11 crore)
- Ravi Bishnoi ( ₹11 crore)
- Mohsin Khan ( ₹4 crore)
- Ayush Badoni ( ₹4 crore)
The Price tag for Nicholas Pooran raised a few eyebrows, but Nicholas Pooran has over the years become one of the world’s top T20 players and if required can put on the wicket-keeping gloves too. A leadership role was probably also on the cards.
The Auction
The highlight of the LSG auction was the buying of the costliest player in IPL history, the maverick Rishabh Pant for 27 Crores.
Rishabh Pant auction was the talk of the entire auction as the South Paw was on the must-buy list in most franchises’ wishlists. With a base price of Rs 2 Crores, there was an intense bidding war.
It was Delhi Capitals who went very hard for their ex-captain, but LSG managed to win the bid. With this one buy, LSG covered 2 important positions for the team, a wicketkeeper and a captain they desperately needed.
While they made all the right noise with the Rishabh Pant buy, did they falter in the bowling department which looks not as complete as their batting
Lucknow Super Giants has done very well in the last few seasons, being the newest entrant in the Indian Premier League along with the Gujarat Titans. With Pant’s acquisition, LSG has made a bold statement on their IPL title aspirations.
David Miller (Rs 7.5 crore), Mitchell Marsh (Rs 3.4 crore), and Aiden Markram (Rs 2 crore) were good International buys for the franchise.
The bowling unit includes Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, and Shamar Joseph.

Super Sports View and IPL Predictions
Lucknow Super Giants on paper looks a strong batting unit but there are glaring gaps in their squad. While they have banked on their batting, teams winning championships are teams with a strong bowling unit.
Even with a good batting unit, Lucknow Super Giants failed to keep specialist opening batsmen which may hurt them in the tournament.
While the team may look an aggressive side on paper, batting having oversees player and an in experienced Indian bowling attack may not help them reach the playoffs.
We give the squad 7/10
