IPL 2025 Auction Review | Rajasthan Royals (RR)- Updates & Overview

This article will discuss how Rajasthan Royals (RR) fared in the 2025 Indian Premier League auction.

Rajasthan Royals are among the few teams who performed well as a unit in the previous edition and looked to be a consistent team in the Indian Premier League.

The team has been consistent but unfortunately have only 1 title in their cabinet which is unfortunate.

With a very good campaign in the last edition, it was natural that the franchise would want to hold on to their core.

Sanju Samson.

Six players (five capped and one uncapped) were retained.

  • Sanju Samson.
  • Yashasvi Jaiswal.
  • Riyan Parag.
  • Sandeep Sharma.
  • Shimron Hetmyer.
  • Dhruv Jurel.

After the retained players, Rajasthan Royals was able to maintain a major portion of their original core which gave them a great head start for the mega auction

However, some major exclusions, such as Rovman Powell, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Avesh Khan, and Yuzvendra Chahal, were also criticized.

After the retention, only a total of Rs 41 crores remained as the balance purse which would restrict the Inaugural champions to splurge on some key players.

Jofra Archer was back in Rajasthan colors after being part of the team in 2020 team.

Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga were also bought to take care of the spin department though losing Yuzi Chahal would have hurt them badly.

Auction Hits and Misses

Hits

  • The core was retained which helped Rajasthan Royals to build a team that could play a similar style of play, as was the case in the last edition.
  • The team is young and will be part of the long-term vision of the franchise.
  • Most players retained and bought have a proven record in the T20 format.
  • A strong playing eleven.

Misses

  • No bench strength which will become a worry in case of major injuries. Jofra Archer was the worst purchase by MI for two seasons.
  • Bowling was RR’s biggest strength in previous seasons. This time with Bolt, Chahal, and Ashwin missing, bowling is the weaker link.

RR: Probable playing eleven

  1. Yashasvi Jaiswal
  2. Sanju Samson
  3. Nitish Rana
  4. Riyan Parag
  5. Dhruv Jurel
  6. Shimron Hetmyer
  7. Wanindu Hasaranga
  8. Jofra Archer
  9. Maheesh Theekshana
  10. Sandeep Sharma
  11. Tushar Deshpande
  12. Akash Madhwal/Shubham Dubey

SuperSports Views and Predictions

The decision to retain the six players seems to be a great step to maintain the core. But was it a call taken to be safe? Bowling looks extremely vulnerable.

Did they go overboard to get Jofra Archer? Post Jofra Archer’s purchase, bidding became a catch-up game for RR.

Leaving their core bowling squad out like Bolt, Chahal, and Ashwin, has RR erred in the bowling department?

Not much was thought through as players were bought in the auction to fill the numbers.

Prediction for IPL 2025

RR do have a great playing eleven so we at Supersports give them a 7/10.

They may still find it difficult to reach playoff position this time around but on their day can be giant killers.
