This article will discuss on Indian Premier League (IPL) replacements and the replacement rules for the 2025 IPL season.
After the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction, most franchises would have left the auction room happy with their team’s respective purchases.
According to the planned squad balance, players were inducted into the team to create the needed balance in the team composition.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) allows franchises to invite any player from the unsold list from the auction pool to replace the injured player.
As of today, 4 key replacements have already been made by respective franchises before the start of the new season.
Let us have a look at the revamped rules for IPL 2025 in which a team can replace an unavailable member of their roster with a new player.
The governing body has modified the regulations for the current season and replacements are allowed for franchise teams until the 12th league fixture as compared to the 7th league fixture in previous years.
Who is eligible to be considered as replacement
The Players should ensure their name appears on the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP) list for the season.
The replacement player will be reimbursed a minimum of the player’s self-declared reserve price as specified in the RAPP.
Net Bowlers registered with RAPP by a franchise can also be picked by other franchises. The price cap however will be limited to the league fee of the player they replace.
The replacement player if brought in between the season then a proportionate fee considering the matches that happened before the replacement will be considered.
Replacement player is considered only for the replacement (current) season
The replacement player, to continue to play the next season for the franchise has to get an extension. He will be considered as any other player in the squad and will need to adhere to the tournament salary cap and be within the overall players limit for each franchise, currently capped at 25 players.

SuperSports note for Pakistan Super League and Pakistan Cricket Board
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have faced criticism for failing to account for international players opting for IPL instead. Players voluntarily list themselves in the IPL Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP), signaling that they may leave for IPL 2025 squad changes if an opportunity arises.
As a result, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) player retention has become a challenge, as several foreign players prefer IPL exposure.

What’s Next?
Players had voluntarily entered their names in the Indian Premier League (IPL) Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP) should an opportunity arise. The Pakistan Super League and Pakistan Cricket Board should have taken this into account before drafting any international player in their league.
More replacements are expected before the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season and there is scope for franchise to make their replacements till the 12th league fixture.
