Suryakumar Yadav And The Indian Bowlers Save The Day

Suryakumar Yadav And The Indian Bowlers Save The Day | Day 1 ICC T20 World Cup

Suryakumar Yadav or Sky as he is known to all, managed to save India from an opening game loss.

With an Opening day fixture expected to be a straightforward fixture for Team India turned into a tense one and almost ended up embarrassing the defending champion. The USA punched above their weight and surprised everyone with an impressive display that almost shook the Indian fans in a packed Wankhede Stadium.

India avoided an opening-day embarrassment thanks to a match-winning knock from Captain Suryakumar Yadav and later with an impressive, disciplined bowling display by the Indian bowlers who defended the low total and saved the day for Team India.

After sending India to bat first, the stadium erupted in anticipation of a batting feast from Team India on what looked like a belter of a wicket.

From the start, the USA took the fight to the defending champions head-on and dominated the powerplay overs with the score at 46/3. This included a shocking duck from opener Abhishek Sharma and wickets of Ishan Kishan and Tilak Verma in the powerplay.

With Sky having to play a careful knock, wickets continued to fall at the other end.

The USA team came into the game fully prepared, and field placements for each batsman were meticulously studied and executed. The bowlers also bowled according to plan to counter India’s powerful batting lineup, often considered bullies in the powerplay overs.

Mumbai Wicket, known for its fast-paced and bouncy wicket, turned out to be a slow and sluggish one for India’s first World Cup game. The change of pace led to the dismissal of Tilak Verma and Shivam Dube, while Rinku Singh and Hardik Pandya struggled to time the ball, eventually also falling prey to the unpredictable conditions, thus further faltering a middle-order revival, putting India down to 77 for 6.

Suryakumar Yadav to the rescue

Suryakumar Yadav put up a brave fight and single handedly took India to respectable total. He was severe on Saurabh Netravalkar at the death.

Some handy runs from Axar Patel and Arshdeep Singh helped India reach 161/9.

Though the runs were not enough, and India’s bowling was already handicapped with the absence of Jaspreet Bumrah, the bowlers put up a masterclass performance during USA’s batting inning.

USA was hit early by the Indian seamers and struggled in the powerplay at 31/3 in 6 overs.

The spinners kept the run rate down and didn’t allow USA to score more than run a ball. After the initial 3 wickets, USA scored 58 runs of 52 ball until the 12th over.

The game came close with the USA requiring 64 runs off the last five overs, but India kept on taking wickets to keep the run rate in check.  Axar Patel;s double wicket over and Hardik Pandya’s four run over put the equation to 51 runs off 12 balls thus paving the way for a 29 run victory .
