Tata IPL Finals 2023 – A Successful 2023 Tournament coming to an End
What an IPL this was to remember. There were sceptics including me who was not sure that a 74-game tournament would maintain the Hype and the fan following for the entire duration of the tournament.
The 2023 edition brought in some new innovation in the rules, some worked and some failed to impress the majority of the cricket crazy nation. Nevertheless, the Indian Fans prefer to see sixes and fours hit at regular intervals and expects a high score in a 20 over game.
The Impact substitute enabled a batting team to play an additional batsman and the bowling team to play the additional bowler, but did it dilute the suspense and romance of the conventional T20 game.
Thanks to the above new rule, batting team continued to be aggressive in the middle overs even when wickets fell, which traditionally is considered as a consolidating phase, when teams try to preserve their wickets for the slog overs.
The use of DRS technology to determine if a full deliver was bowled above the waist length was in my view a flawed one. Mistakes were made in judging the legality of the delivery. The decisions were not made at point of contact instead was made when the ball passed the waist of the batsman. Hopefully this would be corrected in the next season.
Umpiring was not only average but atrociously poor in some matches. BCCI will need to improve this aspect of the game as not only Indian Premier League but also the Women’s Premier League saw some shocking umpiring blunders.
With Dew playing a factor, toss played a huge role in the team standings as the team batting second had a distinct advantage over their opponents due to the wet outfield. As teams play equal number of games, home and away, visiting team should be given the choice to bat or field which could avoid team getting an unfair advantage. This change does not look probable but could be food for thought for future deliberation
Grounds for the Indian Premier League and Women’s Premier League this year has been brought in to accommodate more sixes and fours but some grounds with 50-meter boundaries made the game difficult to comprehend. All grounds should have standard size and BCCI should look into this to maintain a proper challenge for both Bat and Ball
This year’s Indian Premier League has to be considered one of the most competitive played in the history of the tournament so far. Points table saw constant changes with every game played and almost all teams made a beeline to be in the top 4 to be in the playoffs. The Top 4 was finally decided after the last league game and more than 7 teams were eyeing the 3rd and 4th spot till match 68, proving the competition was fierce.
While the list of injured players saw some star players missing the tournament, the tournament however managed to keep the games competitive.
The reverberation of the fans chanting for their favorite player and team was not limited to the home side as the visiting team also managed to have good support in the stadium from their fans which only proves the success and the evolution of the Indian Premier League over the past 15 years

Chennai Super Kings vs Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans will host the finals against the Chennai Super Kings on the 28th of May, 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Last Night, Defending Champion played the 2nd Qualifier against 5 Time Champion Mumbai Indians to beat them comfortably by 62 Runs to qualify for the finals of the 2023 Indian Premier League
Shubman Gill treated the crowd with some breath-taking cricketing shots and carried his good form into Qualifier 2 match to take Gujarat Titans to their second successive finals of the tournament
With Chennai Super Kings beating Gujarat Titans in the qualifiers, Cricket enthusiasts will be eager to watch the finals to see the response of the defending Champion who will want to correct the mistakes made in their last encounter against the 4-time IPL champions.
After watching the Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans Qualifier 2 game, it is evident that this is a high-scoring ground and dew may not play a part in the game. This may put doubts in the mind of the teams to bat first or chase a target. The pitch plays to the advantage of the batsman after the initial 4 to 5 overs which helps strong batting line-ups to post scores over 200 comfortably
Both Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans will look to bat first if we get similar conditions as last night and the crowds may see yet another 350+ runs scored in the game

Match Predictions
Narendra Modi Stadium will suit Gujarat Titans with their current bowling form. Chennai Super Kings prefer slow and low pitches which suits their bowling. This was evident in Qualifier 1 where Gujarat Titans lost to Chennai Super Kings rather tamely.
The defending champion will want to make it a back-to-back tournament win but will be wary of the 4 Time Champions
Super Sports Predictions : Gujarat Titans has a 60 % chance of a win!
