India vs Pakistan Delivers High-Octane Drama | Women’s World Cup 2025 Showdown

The article details the political undercurrents and drama associated with an India vs Pakistan Clash, currently being witnessed again during the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 (WWC 25).

The match between India vs Pakistan is unlike any game in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 (WWC 25) and known more for its entangled Geo-Political history than the actual game, which is now a one-sided affair.

Introduction

Due to the popularity of the game in both countries and due to the political tensions between the two neighbours, an India vs Pakistan cricket match fuels the expectations of every cricket fan. The animosity between the two countries, unfortunately, has increased with on and off field theatrics of players and Cricket Boards. From the men’s game it is now also seen in the women’s game too.

There was a lot of bad blood in the recently concluded Men’s Asia Cup 2025 . The Finals was a India vs Pakistan encounter which India won convincingly.

The Indian Team refused to shake hands with the Pakistan players and Pakistan players resorted to unwanted gesturing during their game. India also refused to accept the Asia Cup Trophy from the ACC Chief, Mohsin Naqvi as he was also the interior minister of a country,  India had been to war few months back.

A similar political posturing was expected in the Women’s World Cup when the two arch rivals met in another India vs Pakistan clash.

Off‑field Sparks

  • “Azad Kashmir” Commentary Controversy

The mood before the game began was tensed.

Pakistan Ex Skipper and a member of the commentary Panel, Sana Mir made a contentious remark, referring to Pakistan batter Natalia Pervaiz as hailing from “Azad Kashmir”

This was a politically loaded statement as Azad Kashmir is nothing but an illegal occupation of an integral Part of India’s Kashmir referred to as ‘Pakistan Occupied Kashmir’ (POK).

The Comment was not swept under the carpet and fans demanded a formal apology from Sana Mir.

  • BCCI’s Handshake Instructions

Similar to India Men’s Team stand of no handshake with Pakistan, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) instructed the Indian women’s team to also not shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts.

Being a Multinational tournament and with India’s global aspirations, including the Olympics in mind, India chose the no handshake mode as a political gesture instead of withdrawing from the competition. India vs Pakistan clash in the WWC, was held in the neutral venue of Sri Lanka who is also co- hosting the tournament.

  • The Toss Controversy

During the India vs Pakistan game toss, Fatima Sana , captain of Pakistan called ‘Tails. The broadcaster/ official present at the toss function misheard Fatima’s call and wrongly announced the call as ‘Heads’. When the coin landed on Heads, the match referee awarded Pakistan the toss and allowed Pakistan to bowl first. Surprisingly, the Pakistan skipper did not correct the officials here and went with the decision. This incident again went viral on social media, calling Fatima’s inaction an act of cheating.

  • No Handshake at Toss

As was known earlier, the Indian team refused a formal handshake during the toss and during post match.

  • Invasion of Bugs

To add to the already tensed situation, during mid innings of India’s batting the field was disrupted by a swarm of flies/insects . All this added to the drama in the game. Luckily, there was no shortening of the game due to the delay.

  • Poor Umpiring and Poor Use of DRS

The game was full of Umpiring blunders with some clear calls of Leg Before the Wickets (LBW) being turned down by the umpires. The Indian skipper also erred by wasting the DRS options on two relatively poor calls.

  • Muneeba Ali’s Dismissal

Pakistan after having a slow but steady start, the India vs Pakistan game again witnessed a controversial episodes. Muneeba Ali was given run out for not grounding her bat inside the crease when the ball struck the stumps. It was a very tame dismissal, but within the rules of the game. The third umpire reversed the on-field decision and gave Muneeba out.

  • No Post‑Match Greetings

India beat Pakistan for the 12th Straight time in ODIs and secured an 88 run win. The traditional post-match handshake or greetings did not happen. Both sides walked to their dressing rooms after the formalities without interacting.

Summary

The absence of handshakes, the toss confusion, the commentary controversy – all added to the theatre of an India vs Pakistan game. Small gestures become magnified. Handshake denials become a statement.  The game was more played in the mind than on the field.

There was a huge gap in skills between the two sides, and the result was not a surprising one. India beat Pakistan in all departments of the game and continued their dominance over Pakistan. It is 12-0.
