Chennai Super Kings will host Rajasthan Royals in their home for Match No. 17 in the Indian Premier League 2023.

Chennai Super Kings has come back to winning ways after their first loss in the opener. The last win against Mumbai Indians was more tactical along with brilliant captaincy that was the difference. Rajasthan Royals lost their last match against Punjab Kings but will not be disappointed with the result as they almost crossed the line in a high scoring chase.

While Chennai will over rely on their spinners, Rajasthan will come hard with pace and spin in the low and slow pitches of the Chidambaram Stadium.

Chennai Super Kings will be eager to know the Injury status of Deepak Chahar, who limbed his way back to the dressing room after barely finishing the first over of the Mumbai Innings with an hamstring injury. Deepak did not take any further role in the game which is a cause of concern for the Chennai Super Kings camp. Deepak Chahar is one of team’s main bowlers who bowls majority of his overs in the powerplay. Considering being a hamstring injury and a recurring one Chennai may have to look at a replacement soon. Another Injury scare was of the Englishman Ben Stokes who injured his toe and did not take part in the last game. He may be available for the game against Rajasthan as per sources.

While Chennai won their match against Mumbai in the El Clasico Showdown, Chennai Super Kings did leak lot of runs in the second half of their bowling allowing Mumbai Indians to put up a respectable score. As Mumbai Indians are struggling with form, Chennai could seize the advantage. A stronger in form team could have given a tougher fight to the Super Kings.  Chennai plays well on home turf and would look to have the upper hand in the game by bringing their slow bowlers in the game early. Chennai over relies on their allrounders especially Moeen Ali who also missed the Mumbai Game. Ruturaj Gaikwad is in the form of his life and probably the best batsman till now in this tournament.

His sound technique allows him to play proper cricketing shots and his natural game allows him to score at a quick clip. Moeen Ali who surprisingly did not bowl in Chennai’s first match, came back strongly in the second game, taking 4/26 in his 4 overs in a 200+ game.

While the Chennai Team do not look an ominous side on paper, their ability to read the game and the opposition helps them to manipulate the game in their favor. This is their biggest strength.

Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals have their work cut off when they play Chennai Super Kings in Chennai. They will be aware that the wickets in Chennai may not suite their free stroking players and Key players may need to be on top of their games against the Chennai Spinners

In the last 3 innings of Rajathan Royals, The Royals have scored 203/5, 197/4 and 199/4, which is quite impressive showcasing that the team not only scores big, they donot throw their wickets too. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Butler have been the best opening pair in this competition so far and it is vry encouraging to see Yashasvi Jaiswal outscoring his senior partner in the powerplay. While the pitch of the Chidambaram Stadium may not suit the strokeplayers of the Royals, the spin bowling unit will be enjoying this surface and can threaten the Chennai Batsmen. Ravichandran Ashwin is a local Chennai boy and will know the pitch in the back of his hand which will prove advantageous for his partner Yuzi Chahal.
